Today in 2015 a Service of Reveal was held at Leicester Cathedral during which King Richard III’s tomb was unveiled. A three tonne block of carved Swaledale fossil stone from North Yorkshire which had been put in place overnight after the reinterment service the previous day.

As part of the reinterment ceremony Richard III’

As part of the reinterment ceremony Richard III’s coffin had soil scattered upon it.

The soil had been gathered from three locations; Fotheringhay, Middleham & Bosworth.

Samples were saved in these caskets, made by Richard’s great x16 nephew, and are on display Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre
