This Half Term find out what life was really like on a medieval battlefield …

You won’t be expected to re-live the Wars of The Roses, but you will be able to find out what it was really like to be on the battlefield in medieval times.

With different half term holiday dates across the region, we’ll be talking about arms and armour for most of the month and we’ve got a lot to talk about.

From 12th – 20th October at our Life On The Battlefield event, you can find out about the arms and armour that a knight would use to stay alive. Our battlefield medic is also on hand to advise on how to deal with battlefield mishaps and younger visitors can also join our Knight School and learn how to dress, behave and fight like a knight!

On 21st – 25th October and 28th October – 1st November our Medieval Sword Master will be welcoming you into the world of medieval combat by sharing tips of his trade and teaching the ways of the medieval warrior.

Throughout our October Half Term events, you can stop off at our craft station and get creative – with portraits to colour, crowns to decorate and shields to create, there is lots to keep younger visitors busy.

Even the Visitor Centre’s White Boar Café is following a battlefield theme, with a very hearty Battlefield Soup, shield biscuits and a Wars of The Roses smoothie to enjoy!

And if all that wasn’t enough to keep the whole family busy, there’s the incredible story of King Richard III to discover. Find out almost everything there is to know about the much-maligned king – his life, death and the discovery and identification of his remains. No visit is complete without seeing the actual place where the king’s remains lay undiscovered in a car park for over 500 years.

All our October Half Term events and craft activities are included in the price of admission to the Visitor Centre and, once paid for, our tickets can be used for unlimited visits for a whole year. Events and craft activities do take place on specific dates so please check dates when planning a visit.
