UPDATED INFORMATION: King Richard III Visitor Centre COVID-19 (Coronavirus) 24th June 2020
We’re thrilled at the news announced by the Prime Minister that museums and visitor centres can re-open from 4th July – it feels like a very long time since we were able to open our doors and welcome visitors.
Our priority is to make the Visitor Centre a safe place to work and a safe place to visit, and we are working closely with our Leicester City Council colleagues to make the necessary changes to the building in order to meet the Government guidelines.
We will be implementing a number of measures that will allow us to open the Visitor Centre with confidence and enable us to safely share the incredible story of King Richard III’s discovery once again. These measures will include:
• A limit to daily visitor numbers through the advanced booking of timed tickets
• A one-way route through the exhibition with appropriate 2m social distancing floor markers and signage
• Perspex screens at service points
• Hand sanitiser stations at key points in the exhibition
• An enhanced cleaning regime
• Full training and instruction for our teams and volunteers so that we can provide you with the best possible experience in the safest possible way
It will be some time before these changes can be prepared, installed, and tested so we won’t be confirming an opening date until we are confident that everything will be in place, that staff can return safely for training, and that all staff are happy that the measures planned will work in practice.
We hope to be open before the end of summer so please continue to check our website and social media channels for further updates.
20th March 2020
Following the latest government recommendations, we have taken the decision to close the Visitor Centre with immediate effect, for the foreseeable future.
Our first priority is the health and wellbeing of all our visitors, volunteers and staff, and whilst we would love to welcome you to the Visitor Centre, we hope you can understand why we have taken this unprecedented step.
Any advance bookings made directly through the Visitor Centre, for a visit or an event, will have already been refunded directly to you. If you have any questions, please contact us via email: info@kriii.com or call 0116 229 4132 (office hours only).
Whilst we can’t share the incredible story of King Richard III with you in person over the coming weeks, we will continue to share it through our social media accounts – Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.
We look forward to welcoming you at the Visitor Centre again soon; please visit our website and social media for further updates on re-opening. Until then, the whole Visitor Centre team hopes that you and your families and friends keep healthy and safe.

Hi, I really want to come and visit when you reopen. Do you have any idea when you might reopen? I know you’re closed because of the corona virus but many places are starting to reopen. Kind regards.
Hi Amelia,
It’s likely to be later in the summer before we re-open; we’re just in the process of adding an update to the website with more information.
Thanks,
Emma
