Do you have a few hours to spare? Would you like to meet new people, learn new skills and help us share the story of King Richard III?
If the answer to those questions is “Yes” then we’d love to hear from you. We are looking to add to our band of happy volunteers and welcome applications from anyone who is interested in working as part of our team.
Paul has been a volunteer with us for nearly a year now and this is his story:
“I decided to become a volunteer at the Visitor Centre as I had recently retired and was looking for flexible options that would provide an opportunity to have some element of public interaction but without the commitment of being employed and obligated to specific timeframes.
“My previous role involved a good level of client interaction at a complex level and I was looking for exposure to this, in explaining a relatively complex set of events in a readily digestible way.
“I get a huge amount of satisfaction from helping visitors enjoy and get the most from their visit to the Centre. The story behind Richard III is in itself fascinating and to help others appreciate and understand this is very motivating.
“It is always good to get a ‘thank you’ from a visitor who has appreciated the amount and quality of information and communication that I have provided. I really enjoy talking to groups of people and encourage them to ask questions that enhance their experiences.
“I also have enjoyed researching some of the finer points of the story and then relaying this as part of my presentation and also feeling informed sufficiently to provide answers to visitor questions.”
