Joe will be giving a show and tell talk about the striking similarities between The Wars of the Roses in England & France and the Sengoku period (known as Sengoku Jidai) in Japan during the 15th & 16th Centuries, followed by a Q&A opportunity.
The Wars of the Roses, known at the time as the Civil Wars, were a series of battles fought over control of the English throne in the 15th Century, a period Richard III was born into, with the Battle of Bosworth bringing about his death and the transfer of power from the Plantagenets to the Tudors. The Sengoku Jidai 'Warring States period', was a period of civil wars and social upheavals which took place almost continuously during the 15th and 16th centuries in Japan, characterized by the overthrow of a superior power by a subordinate one. With both weapons and armour on show, Joe will compare the similarities and the contrasts between Europe’s knights and Japan's samurai.
