We are incredibly proud to share that one of our dedicated volunteers, Lamar Folkett, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Young Person of the Year Award at the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire’s Awards. This well-deserved recognition celebrates the outstanding contributions of young people across the county, and we couldn’t be more delighted that Lamar is among this year’s finalists.

At just 20 years old, Lamar balances his volunteering at the King Richard III Visitor Centre alongside his studies at Leicester College. His enthusiasm for history, in particular the story of King Richard III, shines through in everything he does here. Whether he’s engaging with visitors, sharing fascinating facts, or supporting our team behind the scenes, his passion and commitment make him an invaluable part of our Centre.

For Lamar, his connection to King Richard III runs deep. His late grandmother was a member of the Richard III Society, and he proudly continues that legacy, deepening his own understanding of the King’s life and reign. Volunteering at the Centre has given him the chance to bring history to life, and he often says that every shift teaches him something new about this remarkable period.

Next month (7th May), Lamar will attend the awards ceremony at County Hall, where the winners will be announced. Regardless of the outcome, we are already incredibly proud of his achievement and the dedication he brings to the Centre.

Please join us in congratulating Lamar on this fantastic nomination! We’ll be cheering him on at the ceremony and look forward to celebrating his success.
