King Richard III Visitor Centre celebrates receiving the prestigious Sandford Award for Heritage Learning, alongside its Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge.
The King Richard III Visitor Centre in Leicester has once again been recognised for the quality of its educational and learning experiences, having been awarded the prestigious Sandford Award for Heritage Learning.
The award celebrates heritage attractions that demonstrate excellence in their approach to learning, recognising organisations that provide engaging, inspiring and high-quality educational experiences for visitors.
The achievement comes alongside the Visitor Centre’s Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge, meaning the attraction now holds two significant accreditations recognising its commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences.
Together, the awards reinforce the King Richard III Visitor Centre’s position as an inspiring destination for school groups and young people, bringing history to life through the story of England’s last Plantagenet king.
The Visitor Centre tells the remarkable story of Richard III, from his life and reign to the discovery of his remains beneath a Leicester car park in 2012. Through original archaeological evidence, interactive displays, objects and immersive interpretation, pupils can explore the past and develop a deeper understanding of medieval Leicester and the people who lived here.

The Sandford Award for Heritage Learning is an independent quality-assured assessment of heritage education programmes, while the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge recognises providers that meet national standards in learning and safety.
The two awards provide a strong endorsement of the Visitor Centre’s commitment to schools and educational visitors.
