Visitors to the King Richard III Visitor Centre are advised that essential repairs to the glazed panel covering King Richard III's original burial site will take place from Wednesday 8 July to Friday 10 July.

The original grave site, located within the remains of the Greyfriars Priory choir, has been protected beneath a specially designed glazed panel since the visitor centre opened in 2014. The glazing allows visitors to view the exact location where King Richard III was discovered during the groundbreaking archaeological excavation in 2012.

A specialist team of contractors will carefully remove the existing damaged panel and install a new triple-glazed replacement. Throughout the works, every precaution will be taken to protect the archaeology beneath and preserve the integrity of this Scheduled Ancient Monument.

During the three-day repair programme, the original grave site will be temporarily closed to visitors, and parts of the courtyard will also be inaccessible. As the contractors will be using the visitor centre's car park, the number of Blue Badge parking spaces available will be limited during this period.

The remainder of the visitor centre will remain open as usual, with visitors still able to enjoy the exhibition galleries and discover the remarkable story of King Richard III's life, death, rediscovery and reburial.

The original grave site is expected to reopen on Saturday 11 July.

We thank visitors for their patience and understanding while these important conservation works are carried out.
